मंगळवार, १ मे २०१२ रोजी महानगरपालिकेच्या सभागृहात आज सकाळी दहा वाजता पीठासीन अधिकारी जिल्हाधिकारी विजय वाघमारे यांच्या प्रमुख उपस्थितीत महापौर व उपमहापौर पदासाठी निवडणूक प्रक्रियेला सुरुवात झाली. शहराच्या पहिल्या महिला महापौरपदी काँग्रेसच्या संगीता अमृतकर तर उपमहापौरपदी शिवसेनेचे संदीप आवारी निवडून आले. अमृतकर यांनी भाजपच्या सुषमा नागोसे यांचा तर आवारी यांनी अनुप पोरेड्डीवार यांचा ४४ विरुद्ध १८ मतांनी पराभव केला.  महापौरपद ओबीसी महिला प्रवर्गासाठी राखीव होताच काँग्रेस व भाजप या दोन्ही पक्षाने महापौर व उपमहापौर पदावर दावा सांगितला होता. एकूण ६६ सदस्य असलेल्या महानगरपालिकेत काँग्रेसचे सर्वाधिक २६ नगरसेवक, त्यापाठोपाठ भाजप १८, अपक्ष १०, शिवसेना ५, राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेस ४ व मनसे, बसप आणि भारिप बहुजन महासंघाचा प्रत्येकी एक नगरसेवक आहे.

Politics always makes strange bed-fellows, but they make stranger bed-fellows in Maharashtra. On Monday, Congress got its mayor Sangita Amrutkar elected in Maoists-hit Gadchiroli with a little help from the Shiv Sena, which gladly obliged. In return, the Congress helped the Sena bag the post of deputy mayor.

In both the elections the BJP, which is in alliance with the Sena, was the loser as it was the main contender for the two posts after emerging as the second biggest party with 18 seats. The Sena had got five seats, while the Congress, the single largest party, won 25 seats.

While the BJP is crying foul, the Sena is claiming that they have paid back the BJP in the same coin after the latter supported the MNS in Nashik, ignoring the Sena's attempt to come to power.

In the Thane corporation, the Congress, which fought the elections together with the NCP, managed to get the post of the leader of opposition after the Sena supported it. This resulted in an angry war of words as the NCP was supposed to get the post by virtue of it getting more seats than the Congress.

Political leaders said that Gadchiroli and Thane are examples of "compulsions of local level politics" and do not have any bearing on the state or the national political scene.

पुगलीया यांच्या उपोषणाची सांगता

विविध मागण्यांसाठी गेल्या सात दिवसांपासून उपोषणास बसलेले माजी खासदार नरेश पुगलीया यांनी महसूल मंत्री बाळासाहेब थोरात व रोजगार हमी योजना मंत्री नितीन राऊत यांचे हस्ते लिंबू पाणी पिऊन उपोषण सोडले. यावेळी माजी मंत्री व आमदार विजय वडेट्टीवार, आमदार नामदेव उसेंडी, महापौर संगीता अमृतकर, जिल्हाधिकारी विजय वाघमारे, उपविभागीय अधिकारी आशुतोष सलील व मनपा आयुक्त प्रकाश बोखड उपस्थित होते.

विधान परिषद निवडणुकीसाठी अर्ज दाखल

चंद्रपूर - गडचिरोली - वर्धा विधान परिषद निवडणुकीसाठी काँग्रेसचे बंडखोर उमेदवार म्हणून संगीता अमृतकर यांनी अर्ज दाखल केला होतो. नंतर अर्ज मागे घेतल्याने माजी खा. नरेशकुमार पुगलिया यांचे चिरंजीव राहुल पुगलिया हे काँग्रेसतर्फे तर भाजपातर्फे नितेश बागडिया अशी सरळ लढत झाली
